Congratulations to our students who took part in All-State this weekend! The Belhaven All-State Orchestra is a prestigious event which is open to high school string musicians in 8th grade and above from across the State of Mississippi. Students are chosen by audition to take part in this orchestral opportunity. The Concert, which was open to the public, was held on March 25th and included such pieces as The Concerto for Two Violins in D Minor by Bach, The Holberg Suite, Op. 40 by Edvard Grieg, and The Danzas de Panama by William Grant Still. The students who participated in this event are members of the Columbus Suzuki Strings Program under the direction of Diane Ford. Congratulations to Daniel Jones (one of our former members, who now has a student in our program) for being named first chair and concert master of the Mississippi All-State Orchestra!
Congratulations to all of our students who will be performing with the All-State Orchestra, April 10-11. On violin Abby Swartzendruber, Gracie Swartzendruber, Aidan Dunkelberg, and Hope Bassett. And on cello, Scott Sandifer, who will be 2nd chair Assistant Cello. Congratulations Scott and congratulations all on your hard work with auditions (while preparing for Music Festival).
Belhaven University All-State Orchestra Participants
Congratulations to the three Suzuki String students were chosen to participate in the prestigious Belhaven Univ. All-State orchestra on March 23, 2013. The 47 members of this orchestra were chosen by audition and come from across the state of Mississippi. The students pictured from left to right are: Scott Sandifer from Caledonia, MS, Daniel Jones from Starkville, MS, and Abbey Swartzendruber from Smithville, MS. The All-State orchestra was conducted by Maestro Ivan Del Prado. The concert included: Symphony No.1 by William Boyce, Concerto in C minor by G. P. Telemann, Capriol Suite by Peter Warlock, and the St. Paul Suite by Gustav Holst.
