Suzuki Strings of Columbus, Mississippi

Suzuki Method Violin and Cello: Beginners to Advanced Ensemble

Orchestra

The Columbus Suzuki Youth Orchestra is open to students in books 2 and higher of the Suzuki repertoire, who demonstrate good sight reading skills and are recommended by their teacher and conductor. A take-home folder is provided for each orchestra student so they may practice the music at home and at their private lessons. Instruments include: First, Second, and Third Violin; Viola; and Cello.

Each year, the Orchestra works on a fall and a spring repertoire and performs at a number of events, including a Leigh Mall Christmas concert on Thanksgiving weekend, at least one performance a local nursing home, the annual Tour of Schools, the Hitching Lot Farmer’s Market, and the Market Street Festival.

Playing in an orchestra gives students valuable ensemble experience. Besides learning to play parts other than the melody, students learn to play together and develop an orchestral repertoire. This past year, six of our students were selected to perform in the Mississippi All-State Orchestra. What an honor!
